The Last of Us Part 1: Remastered for PC

Discover the Key Differences and Upgrades in the Highly-Anticipated Remake

As many of you are well aware, The Last of Us Part 1 is almost available for PC. But what are the most significant differences in the remake, and is it worth buying if you've played the 2013 original?

Face Value

The most immediate and probably significant change from the original game is how it looks. Naughty Dog has clearly put in major man hours as the graphics have been completely rebuilt from the ground up with new models, textures, and even faces. The game runs at a buttery smooth 60fps, with seamless transitions from action to cutscenes. Another major factor in the game's overall feel is the lighting, which demonstrates just how far technology has come since even the PS4 remake. This lends itself to a deeper sense of atmosphere and environment, which, in turn, significantly improves our overall immersion.

Gameplay

While much less noticeable than the phenomenal graphical improvements, the gameplay has also been modernized and improved upon. New animations help visually support our actions, whether it be a smoother transition between sneaking and walking or a better sense of force when we're swinging for a home run at a group of Cordyceps. Speaking of our fungal friends, the enemy AI has been improved, making our foes much more aggressive and NPC’s behaviour much more realistic.

For fans of shooting Naughty Dog has completely overhauled both running and shooting as well as bow mechanics to be a sort of Part 1/Part 2 hybrid. Level design has also seen some minor modifications with parts of the game changed and environments are more reactive with greater destruction added.

Accessibility

Naughty Dog has also implemented a number of accessibility adjustments, most notably in the area of visual accessibility. These features include an enhanced listen mode that allows you to scan for enemies, navigation assistance, and cinematic descriptions for players or spectators who are blind or visually impaired. A screen reader, traversal audio cues, battle audio cues, adjustable controls, and color blind modes are further noteworthy features.
